Jonathan Anderson, Construction (Holy Mountain), 2012, oil on birch panel with unpainted structure, 48 × 60 in.

In a mountainous landscape, I have built the structural framing of a single wall, which is tightly squared up to the edges of the panel but angled in space. This angled wooden wall is unpainted, showing only the flat wooden surface on which the painting is made, thereby causing a kind of paradox in the spatiality of the wooden structure. In and through this paradoxical wall: a mountain.
